The Hewlett Foundation recently conducted a study on nonprofit foundation infrastructure. Funding for nonprofit infrastructures has not kept pace with the overall receipt of funds. Funding for philanthropic infrastructure has grown immensely, but other nonprofit infrastructure has not grown in such a manner.
The author of this blog post believes that nonprofits must be more honest and direct with their foundations, addressing the issue of underfunding so that infrastructure can stay solid and not fall apart. It is important to not be overly polite and not allow foundations to make all the decisions with little input from the nonprofits themselves. Nonprofit infrastructure is vital and should be of utmost importance for foundations - if nonprofits fail, the foundations and surrounding communities will fail as well.
