Adaptive Physical Education/Aquatics Teacher

Job Description

Evergreen Center, a world-class human services organization, provides living and learning environments for persons with developmental disabilities diagnosed with multiple disabilities including autism, physical disabilities, neurological problems, and behavior disorders. We are currently seeking an Adaptive Physical Special Education Teacher to join our team of passionate and dedicated professionals.



Physical Education:

  • Develops specific goals and objectives for appropriate students for inclusion in the Individual Education Plans
  • Administers direct treatments to identified students under the direct supervision of the Physical and Occupational Therapists
  • Maintains accurate and complete records, including Therapy Time Logs, Therapy Treatment Audit sheets, specific data collection and reading when appropriate
  • Evaluates equipment needs, coordinates the acquisition and utilization of equipment, and oversees proper maintenance of equipment


  • In water participation, in providing support for adaptive aquatic program
  • Consults to and participates in the Evergreen Center swim program (by attending sessions and working with individuals or groups as time and other activities permit)
  • Coordinates student participation in special sport functions (such as a yearly Special Olympics Program)

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Current MA Special Education certification in Physical Education is required
  • Academic concentration or teaching experience in Adapted Physical Education is preferred
  • Red Cross Life Guard Certification or a willingness to obtain the current certification is required
