Chief Development Officer

Job Description


Position Purpose

This position provides Leads BBBSA Fund Development efforts of the national organization and the broader network, specifically with our local affiliate leadership. Position requires a demonstrated success in an affiliated model, both in individual giving and corporate giving.  Fosters a culture of giving that develops, manages and delivers a clearly defined nationwide fundraising strategy. Fundraising strategy will lead to consistent growth in revenue to meet operation and program needs as well as build a suitable level of reserves.                                                                                            

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aligns the organization’s revenue plan to the BBBSA Strategic Direction.


  • Responsible for delivering an annual BBBSA revenue goal as well as building a sustainable income base for the BBBS network.

  • Evaluates and recommends short and long range fund development plans and programs that support an affiliated model.

  • Helps develop a balanced mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain, and motivate donors and fund development staff.

  • Provides support to the CEO in her role as chief spokesperson and fundraiser.


  • Ensures fulfillment of fund development roles and facilitate optimum interaction between donors.

  • Working with the Fund Development team, and the National Board of Directors to identify and successfully solicit individual, foundation and corporate prospects whose philanthropic priorities or business interests overlap with the work of BBBS.

  • Enhances and strengthens prospect research, communications, and information systems functions.


  • Provide direction to a comprehensive, timely and innovative stewardship program.  Elevates the importance of stewarding all gifts and programs in ways that strengthen donors’ interest in, satisfaction with, and commitment to BBBS.


  • Ensures that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision and plans.


  • Establishes personnel accountabilities for development staff and evaluates performance regularly.

  • Ensure that the Development Department has a strong fundraising infrastructure.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level:  Bachelor’s Degree Required.

Years of Related Work Experience:  At minimum 10 years’ demonstrated successful experience in non-profit fundraising grants and Foundation relationships.

Highly organized in approach, with ability to set and manage priorities

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, fluid corporate environment

Strong writing ability, verbal and presentation skills

X

Ability to work independently in achieving results consistently, on deadline

X

Excellent team working skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve objectives

X

Sound researching, analysis and reporting skills

X

Intermediate Excel and Word skills. Basic PowerPoint skills

X

Certified Fundraising Professional (CFRE)

X


Travel    30-40%
