The world's longest-running mental-health conference is ending in Doha, Qatar, after a three-day run that organizers say was "rich and engaging."
The 11th Qatar International Mental Health Conferencewhich focused on "the science of medicine with the importance of wellbeing and mental health promotion," per a press releasebrought together more than 1,000 delegates from around the world to discuss mental health and well-being, as well as innovations in treatment and psychiatry.
"This event was an ambitious attempt to combine the science of medicine with the importance of wellbeing and mental health promotion," Dr. Majid al-Abdulla, medical director of the Mental Health Service at Hamad Medical Corporation, said in the release.
The conference featured more than 50 local, regional, and international speakers, many of whom discussed techniques to relieve stress and to promote stretching and well-being.
"Embracing a wellbeing approach helps to promote mental health and raises public awareness in addition to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health," said Susan Clelland, director of the National Mental Health Program at the country's Ministry of Public Health.
"The scientific stream of the conference brought many experts who worked with local clinical leaders to share and update on areas of contemporary and innovative practice."
