It's that time of year again: time for Canadians to open their wallets and give to causes of their choosing.
But this year's National Philanthropy Day, which is being celebrated on Nov.
15, isn't just about drawing attention to the important role philanthropy plays in the countryit's also about putting pressure on the resources charities have to work with, the Globe and Mail reports.
"The increasing demand for services from charitiescombined with a decrease in donations, fewer volunteers, and inflationis putting pressure on the sector's resources and staff at a time when fundraisers and the funds they generate are needed more than ever," says Kyle Tiney, secretary of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy Canada's Canada board.
"We are doing as much as we can to fundraise in a time of growing need, and that's putting a big strain on us as we search for different opportunities and new ways to tell our stories," says Rea Ganesh, VP of philanthropy at Scarborough Health Network Foundation, which is chair-elect of AFP Canada.
The Giving Report 2023 released by CanadaHelps, a charity advancing philanthropy through technology, reports that 22% of Canadians expect to rely on charities to meet their basic needs this year, while more than 57% of charities
