The Terry Lyons School of Accounting at Texas Tech University is getting a new name thanks to a $100 million donation from Terry and Susan Lyons.
"We are grateful to Terry and the Lyons family for their investment in the future accounting education within the Rawls College of Business," says Margaret L.
Williams, dean of the school.
"Their gift will elevate our ability to create leading-edge programs and prepare students to contribute to the evolution of the accounting field at a critical time in its history."
Terry Lyons graduated from the school in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in accounting, and was named a distinguished alumnus in 2022, per a university press release.
He went on to found the insurance brokerage and risk management firm Risk Strategies, and now serves as the national education chair of the specialty insurance brokerage and risk management firm.
The couple has been "true friends" of Texas Tech and Rawls College for more than 30 years, Terry says.
"Texas Tech and the Lyons School of Accounting provided the foundation for my career, giving me the education and building relationships that were crucial to my business and life success," he adds.
The couple's donation will fund scholarships, enabling faculty to conduct "cutting-edge accounting research, expanding industry connections, and supporting other areas greatest need," says Williams.
