10-Year, $10M Steelcase Foundation Research Project Centers on Mothers' Experience

The Steelcase Foundation is putting $10 million behind a 10-year project that will follow 30 black and Latina mothers in Michigan's Kent County.

The Investment in Families Initiative will look at the women and their families as they navigate from early childhood through high school, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

"Our goals are to create room for Black and Latina mothers to breathe, so that they can set and work towards their own self-determined goals to ultimately increase their economic stability and the overall well-being of their families," says Stacy Stout, the Steelcase Foundation's first director of family-centered philanthropy.

The project's coordinator will serve as a coach for participating mothers and help coordinate cohort gatherings, analyze data, and contribute work as part of the overall IIF team.

The Women's Resource Center in Grand Rapids will serve as the employer of record for the project, according to an announcement this month.
