Fortune reports more and more companies are trying to improve the well-being of their employees by offering everything from career coaching to relaxation courses.
But one benefit that doesn't seem to have an effect on well-being is employee volunteering.
According to Benevity's 2024 State of Corporate volunteering report, employees who participate in workplace volunteering and purpose programs are 52% less likely to leave their companies.
And that's not all.
The report found that 94% of companies that currently have employee engagement programs offer volunteering, up from 87% last year.
And the companies that do offer volunteering programs are seeing participation grow, with the number of active workplace volunteers jumping from 900,000 in 2022 to 1.4 million in 2023.
Experts tell Fortune that companies should make their volunteering programs easy to access, offer an array of options, and position leaders as philanthropic role models.
