"It's hard to find, but if you haven't found what drives you, keep doing the work until you do."
That's the advice of Rachel Arnold, a senior managing director at Vista Equity Partners, who spoke at the 23rd annual Chicago Booth Private Equity Conference last week, NBC Chicago reports.
According to a press release, the conference was the largest to date with more than 500 attendees from 13 universities, 26 states, and several countries.
The purpose of the conference is to provide private equity practitioners with knowledge from both industry and academic that would be hard to find in any other setting," says Samir Mayekar, associate vice president and managing director of the Polsky Center, which co-hosted the conference with the Chicago Booth Private Equity Group.
Arnold's advice for students interested in a career in private equity? "First, be strong in who you areknow your strengths, weaknesses, and be self-aware," she says.
"Second, choose a craft, not a career.
It's hard to find, but if you haven't found what drives you, keep doing the work until you do.
Third, act as an owner.
