Dr. Laura Purdy, an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, has founded a medical company that she says is "revolutionizing the healthcare landscape with a visionary approach that empowers patients, redefines standards, and sets new benchmarks in the industry's evolution."
SWELL Medical PC, as Purdy's company is called, is based in Miami and offers a wide range of services, including weight management, wound care, and fertility treatments, per a press release.
But it's Purdy's work with veterans that's getting the most attention, reports the Miami Herald.
In an op-ed for the New York Times, Purdy writes that she's seen first-hand the difficulties veterans face when trying to find medical care after being discharged from the military.
They often have to travel to different states to get the care they need, or can't afford.
"I've seen first-hand the difficulties veterans face when trying to find medical care after being discharged from the military," she writes.
"I've also seen first-hand the difficulties veterans face when trying to find work after being discharged from the military."
She adds that she hopes her story will inspire other veterans to seek medical help.
